Defibrillator Awareness Training

Defibrillator Awareness Training

This Online Defibrillator Awareness Training / AED Training / Defib Training / Defibrillators in Schools / AED in Schools is an important educational program designed to teach individuals how to properly recognise and respond to sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) emergencies using a defibrillator.  A defibrillator is a medical device that delivers an electric shock to the heart in an attempt to restore its normal rhythm during a cardiac arrest.

Here are some key aspects that are covered in this Defibrillator Awareness / AED Training :

Understanding Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), Importance of Early Defibrillation, Anatomy and Operation of a Defibrillator, Safety Precautions, Basic CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Skills, Legal Considerations and Protocols, Maintenance and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) Program Management and public Access Defibrillation (PAD) Programs

Defibrillator awareness training aims to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to confidently and effectively respond to cardiac emergencies.  By spreading awareness and increasing access to defibrillators, these training programs contribute to saving lives and improving outcomes for individuals experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

The aims / learner outcomes of the online Defibrillator Awareness course:

By the end of this online first aid training course, you will:

  1. Knowledge of Defibrillators:  Learners should gain a solid understanding of what defibrillators are, their purpose, and how they work.  This includes knowledge of the different types of defibrillators available, such as automated external defibrillators (AEDs), and their components.
  2. Recognising Cardiac Arrest:  Learners should be able to recognise the signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest, a condition in which the heart suddenly stops beating effectively.  This includes understanding the importance of immediate response and activating emergency medical services (EMS).
  3. Safety Precautions:  Learners should be aware of the necessary safety precautions to take when using a defibrillator, ensuring the safety of themselves and others in the vicinity.  This includes factors like removing metal objects, wet conditions, and ensuring a clear space around the patient.
  4. Operating a Defibrillator:  Learners should be trained on how to operate a defibrillator correctly.  This includes understanding the steps involved in using an AED, such as turning it on, attaching the electrode pads to the patient’s chest, following voice or visual prompts, and delivering a shock if necessary.
  5. Effective CPR:  Defibrillator awareness training often includes teaching learners the basics of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).  This includes understanding the correct technique for performing CPR, including chest compressions and rescue breaths, and the integration of defibrillator use in CPR protocols.
  6. Confidence in Emergency Situations:  By the end of the training, learners should feel confident and capable of using a defibrillator during an emergency situation.  They should have the knowledge and skills to respond promptly, perform CPR effectively, and use a defibrillator to potentially save a life.
